Lyrics
You Don't Wanna Hear It
[Verse 1]
I held you when the night got heavy
Ten days in, you said you weren’t ready
To live, to love, to breathe again
So I took you in, I played pretend
Like I wasn’t scared, like I didn’t ache
Built a life for two that you could break
Gave you pieces of my soul and name
Now you act like I’m the one to blame
[Pre-Chorus]
And I wrote songs from the silence
Turned heartbreak into diamonds
But every time I hit “play”…
You just turn away
[Chorus]
You don’t wanna hear it
The truth in the chords, the weight of the lyrics
I bleed in the lines, you act like you fear it
Maybe it hurts ’cause you know
I still glow from the love you let go
You don’t wanna hear it
Not the pain, not the pride, not the spirit
Guess it’s easier if you don’t go near it
But I won’t stop singing just to keep you fine
No, this voice is mine
[Verse 2]
You’re clocking in from across the coast
Still got your hands on what I built the most
But you won’t clap, won’t say my name
Like praise would set your pride aflame
I saved your life, but now I see
You don’t love the light if it’s not from you to me
[Pre-Chorus]
So I’ll keep spinning my truth
While you dodge every proof
Of the man I became
After you walked away
[Chorus]
You don’t wanna hear it
The truth in the chords, the weight of the lyrics
I bleed in the lines, you act like you fear it
Maybe it stings ’cause you know
I rose higher when you let me go
You don’t wanna hear it
Not the dreams, not the fire, not the spirit
Guess it’s easier if you don’t come near it
But I won’t dim down just to make you alright
No, this light is mine
[Bridge]
I gave you love with no receipt
You gave me back a half heartbeat
But baby, I’ve learned to sing with scars
Even if you won’t hear the art
[Chorus]
You don’t wanna hear it
But the world will, and I’ll make ’em feel it
I found power in pain, and I won’t conceal it
Maybe it’s love, maybe it’s spite
But these notes got me through the night
You don’t wanna hear it
But you don’t get to kill what I inherit
This voice, this soul, this spark, I’ll wear it
So turn it down if it’s too real inside
But this song is mine

You Don’t Wanna Hear It
Some stories turn into songs because speaking the truth out loud just isn’t possible anymore. That’s what happened with this one.
There was a time when she and I walked through some of the darkest pain a person can face. I stayed close during nights that felt impossible, held her when she couldn’t stand, and carried pieces of her grief so she didn’t have to hold it alone. None of that was ever a burden — it was just love, the kind that shows up even when it hurts.
But after everything settled, life took us in different directions. And the strange, quiet truth I eventually had to face was that she couldn’t listen to the parts of my heart that came from our story. Not because she didn’t care — but because those memories were too heavy for her, too tangled with loss and pain. Hearing my songs meant revisiting chapters she was trying to leave behind.
I didn’t blame her for that.
But it still hurt.
“You Don’t Wanna Hear It” was written from that place — the soft ache of realizing that the person who once leaned on you simply can’t sit with the echoes of what you survived together. It’s the feeling of loving someone enough to let them turn away, while still needing to speak your truth in the only way you know how.
This song isn’t about anger or resentment.
It’s not about proving anything.
It’s about finding the courage to use my voice again, gently but honestly, even if she’ll never hear it.
Because sometimes healing means letting people walk their own paths…
and allowing yourself to keep singing on yours.
