Can't Risk Losing You
[Verse 1]
You call me up like it’s just another day,
“Grab a coffee, catch up, what do you say?”
I laugh, I nod, play the friend so well,
But my heart’s a secret I can never tell.
The way you say my name, soft and unaware,
It’s a fleeting spark that lingers in the air.
You lean in close, your grin pulls me in too,
And I wonder… could you feel this too?
But I lock it away, keep it out of sight,
‘Cause one wrong word could break us tonight.
[Chorus]
I can’t risk losing you…
Though my heart’s splitting in two.
I’d rather be the one you turn to
Than the one you’re running from.
So I stay silent,
Love you in quiet…
‘Cause I can’t… oh, I can’t
Risk losing you…
[Verse 2]
I’m by your side through every high and low,
Your biggest fan, though you’ll never know.
You talk of love like it’s a distant star,
I smile and hide how close you really are.
Each moment’s a choice—do I speak or stay?
Would my truth build a bridge or burn it away?
If I said it out loud and you turned to go,
I’d shatter watching you fade, so slow…
So I bury my heart, let the words dissolve,
Cling to the “us” I’m too scared to evolve.
[Chorus]
I can’t risk losing you…
Though my heart’s splitting in two.
I’d rather be the one you turn to
Than the one you’re running from.
So I stay silent,
Love you in quiet…
‘Cause I can’t… oh, I can’t
Risk losing you…
[Bridge]
Maybe you sense it, in the pause, in the air,
Or maybe I’m dreaming you could ever care.
But loving you like this, from a shadowed place,
Is the only way I keep you safe.
[Chorus]
I can’t risk losing you…
Though my heart’s splitting in two.
I’d rather be the one you turn to
Than the one you’re running from.
So I stay silent,
Love you in quiet…
‘Cause I can’t… oh, I can’t
Risk losing you…
[Outro]
Oh, I love you… but you’ll never know…
You’ll never know…

Can’t Risk Losing You
There are some people who come into your life and settle into a place you didn’t even know was empty. The kind of person you can talk to for hours without trying, who makes ordinary moments feel like they’re carrying something more. And sometimes, that “more” sneaks up on you before you’re ready to admit it.
This song came from that space — from having someone in my life I cared about deeply, but never dared to tell them the truth. Not because the feelings weren’t real… but because the friendship was even more precious. Losing them would’ve been a heartbreak I wasn’t willing to gamble with.
You know that feeling when you’re sitting across from someone, laughing, listening, pretending everything is easy — while inside you’re holding back a tidal wave? You read into the pauses, the smiles, the way they say your name, and you wonder if maybe, maybe they feel it too. But you stay quiet, because once the words are spoken, you can’t take them back. And if they don’t lean in the same way… the whole foundation can crack.
Can’t Risk Losing You is the sound of loving someone from the safest distance you can manage — close enough to keep them in your world, far enough not to break anything.
It’s choosing their presence over your confession.
It’s holding the truth because letting it out could cost you everything.
This isn’t a song about fear.
It’s a song about value — about recognizing that some connections matter so much, you’d rather keep the love hidden than risk watching the person walk away.
And that kind of love is its own kind of bravery.
—
Combined Backstory for “If You Knew” & “Can’t Risk Losing You” (Two Chapters, One Story):
But when you hold something that huge inside for too long, it changes shape.
And that’s where “Can’t Risk Losing You” was born —
from the moment I realized that speaking the truth
might not bring us closer…
it might destroy the last thing we still had.
That song comes from choosing silence — not because the feelings weren’t real,
but because losing her completely felt worse than hiding the truth.
It’s the heartbreak of loving someone from the sidelines,
of knowing the risk is enormous,
and deciding that keeping the connection alive
matters more than being brave.
These two songs are connected, but they aren’t the same:
One lives in the question.
The other lives in the sacrifice.
Both are true.
Both happened.
Both came from loving someone you don’t want to lose.
