From the Other Side
[Verse 1]
Well, here I am, six feet down,
Lyin’ in the cold, hard ground.
Ain’t no lawyers, ain’t no fights,
Just me and you in the dead of night.
[Verse 2]
We tore love apart like a cheap paper page,
Turned every touch into war and rage.
Didn’t matter what the kids went through,
Long as I was right, long as I beat you.
[Pre-Chorus]
Oh, don’t you act like some saint in the dirt,
You threw your words like they didn’t hurt.
Left me hollow, left me mean,
Taught me how to love like a war machine.
[Verse 3]
We played our games, yeah, we kept the score,
Made our babies choose, slammed every door.
Never saw the tears in their little eyes,
We were too damn stubborn to apologize.
[Chorus]
Now we’re talkin’ from the other side,
No more blame, no more pride.
All the hurt, all the fights,
Were just echoes in the dead of night.
We lost it all, we lost our way,
And now we’re just voices in the grave.
[Bridge]
But listen close beneath the stone,
I hear your voice soft as a moan—
“I’m sorry.” And I say it too.
For all I broke, for what I put you through.
If ghosts can cry, I reckon we do—
Salt and shadow, me and you.
Wish we’d learned before the end,
That love don’t have to break to bend.
The kids, they’re grown, they found their road,
Carved from all the weight we owed.
Maybe they’ll do better than we did—
Hold their hearts, protect their kids.
[Chorus]
Now we’re talkin’ from the other side,
No more blame, no more pride.
All that anger, all that pain—
It don’t mean nothin’ in the rain.
[Outro]
If I could reach across this line,
I’d take your hand, make it right this time.
A whisper’s all the dead can save—
A quiet peace in a quiet grave.

From the Other Side
“From the Other Side is one of those songs that came from a place inside me I didn’t even realize I’d been carrying for so many years.
My parents divorced when I was five, and it was loud, tense, and full of conflict.
Even before the divorce, there wasn’t a lot of softness or emotional safety in the house.”
“When you grow up in that kind of environment, you don’t just lose the family you knew — you lose the moments of tenderness you wish your parents were capable of showing each other… and showing you.”
“So this song isn’t really about death.
It’s about healing something that never happened.”
“I imagined a version of my father without the anger, without the ego — a version of him who could finally say to my mother the things he never could in real life:
love, forgiveness, gratitude… the gentleness their pain never allowed.”
“The ‘other side’ in this song isn’t a place after life — it’s a place of emotional truth, where the walls drop and people finally speak from the heart.”
“Writing it gave me the chance to create a moment I always wished I could’ve witnessed — my parents connecting with kindness instead of conflict.”
“If you grew up in a home with tension or parents who didn’t have the tools to communicate love, I think this song will speak to you.
From the Other Side is my way of giving my parents — and myself — a little bit of the closure real life never offered.”
