Half of Her Heart
[Verse 1]
You say you’re here with me,
But your eyes drift off somewhere I can’t see.
There’s a piece of you I can’t touch,
A shadow of a dream you wanted once.
You tell your friends the truth
You never said out loud to me —
That if he ever turned around,
You’d wanna see what it could be.
[Pre-Chorus]
And I try to stay steady,
Try to keep my heartbeat calm…
But loving someone halfway
Feels like waiting for a storm.
[Chorus]
’Cause I’ve been holding
Half of her heart in my hands,
And the other half’s still wandering
Back to someone else’s plans.
I thought that loving her would be enough
To make her choose my arms…
But I can’t build a future
With just half of her heart.
[Verse 2]
You say it’s nothing now,
But I hear the wish you never said out loud.
Hanging on to “just a friend,”
’Cause you don’t wanna lose what might have been.
And here I am, giving
Every truth and every part —
But you’re still checking his direction
With a quiet, hopeful spark.
[Pre-Chorus]
And I try to be patient,
Try to trust the way you feel…
But loving someone halfway
Never helped a broken heart heal.
[Chorus]
’Cause I’ve been holding
Half of her heart in my hands,
And the other half’s still reaching
Toward a dream that never had a chance.
I thought my honesty and trust
Would be enough to stand…
But I can’t build a future
Holding half of her heart.
[Bridge]
Maybe someday she’ll remember
Who stayed steady through the rain,
Who showed up with open hands
While she was tangled in old pain.
But I can’t be the shelter
For a love that’s split in two…
’Cause I need someone who looks at me
The way I’ve been looking at you.
[Chorus]
Yeah, I’ve been holding
Half of her heart in my hands,
And I’m finally seeing clearly
I was loving someone who can’t.
If choosing me is something
She can’t give with all she has…
Then I’ve gotta save the pieces
Of what’s left of my heart.
[Outro]
Maybe in another lifetime
We could finish what we start…
But I can’t keep pretending
With only half of your heart.

Half of Her Heart
Some truths don’t shout — they settle in slowly.
You don’t see them coming; you just feel something in the relationship shift, like the temperature in a room dropping a few degrees.
That’s what it was like loving her.
Everything looked right on the surface — the laughs, the kisses, the late-night talks — but underneath, something in her stayed just out of reach. It wasn’t that she didn’t care… it was that part of her was still tied to someone before me.
Not in a messy, dramatic way.
More like she kept an old doorway unlocked “just in case.”
I tried to ignore it.
Tried to love her harder, be more patient, give more understanding than I had to spare. But no matter how present I was, a piece of her kept drifting somewhere I couldn’t follow.
That’s a hard place to stand — being the one who shows up fully while the other person hesitates, hoping for clarity that never arrives.
Eventually I had to face the truth:
You can hold someone, you can comfort them, you can give them everything you’ve got…
but you can’t build a future with someone who’s still leaning toward the past.
This story comes from that realization — from loving someone deeply, but knowing I was only holding half of her heart, and finally choosing to protect my own.
