Two Sides
[Verse 1]
At first you shine like silver in the sun,
Heads up, the world believes you’re the one.
Smooth edges, polished and true,
But I’ve learned there’s another face to you.
[Verse 2]
Flip it over, the story changes fast,
The side you’re hiding is the side that lasts.
[Chorus]
People are like coins, two sides to every soul,
One that shines in daylight, one the night controls.
You think you know them, but wait until they spin,
Truth or trouble, brilliance or sin.
Yeah, people are like coins… you never really know,
Which side they’ll show.
[Verse 3]
Some wear honesty like a crown,
But turn ‘em over and it all breaks down.
Some hide secrets in their hearts,
Some hide genius in the dark.
[Verse 4]
Flip it over, the truth comes into view,
The side they don’t show says the most of you.
[Chorus]
People are like coins, two sides to every soul,
One that lifts you higher, one that takes its toll.
You think you know them, but wait until they spin,
Truth or trouble, brilliance or sin.
Yeah, people are like coins… you never really know,
Which side they’ll show.
[Bridge]
Heads or tails, it’s all a game,
We’re all a little honest, we’re all a little strange.
Every face tells half the tale,
The other waits until the flip prevails.
[Chorus]
People are like coins, two sides to every soul,
One that shines in daylight, one the night controls.
You think you’ve got them, but the spin won’t lie,
The hidden face always comes by and by.
[Outro]
Yeah, people are like coins…
Two sides we all know.

Two Sides
This song started forming in my mind after watching people I trusted reveal a completely different version of themselves the moment pressure hit. I’ve lived long enough, and seen enough, to know that everyone has a public face and a private one — the version they want the world to see, and the one that slips out when the mask cracks.
Some people shine on the surface… charming, confident, polished. But flip them over, and you find the part they try hard to hide — insecurity, jealousy, dishonesty, or emotional chaos. And sometimes it works the opposite way. I’ve met people who seemed rough, guarded, or distant, but when you get close, there’s kindness and brilliance underneath that they don’t even know how to show.
The idea hit me one day:
People really are like coins — two sides, one story, and you don’t know which one you’re holding until they spin.
Every verse in the song plays with that truth. It’s not about judging people — it’s about recognizing the complexity we all carry. You can love someone’s shine and still be blindsided by the shadow. Or you can take a chance on someone who looks troubled and find the best part of their soul on the other side.
“Two Sides” is my reminder that we all walk around with hidden layers. No one is just one thing. No one is all light or all dark. And it takes more than a first impression — or even a dozen good moments — to really know someone.
It’s part warning, part observation, part lived experience.
Because the older I get, the more I realize:
you never truly know someone until they flip.
