Used to Be
[Verse 1]
Yeah… mirror don’t hit the same these days,
Lines in my face… that won’t fade away.
Used to walk in… and heads would turn,
Now I fade out… like a bridge that burns.
[Verse 2]
Scrolling through pictures… yeah, that kid was me,
Feels like someone I used to be.
I laugh it off… but it cuts real deep,
‘Cause the world don’t look… at guys like me.
[Pre-Chorus]
Yeah, it’s kinda cruel… but it’s kinda true,
The shine wears off… they stop seeing you.
[Chorus]
I used to be… someone they’d wanna see,
Now I’m just a ghost… in my own memories.
Yeah, time moves on… and it don’t ask why,
You lose your glow… and you don’t know why.
I used to be…
I used to be…
[Verse 3]
Yeah… compliments don’t come like before,
Feels like the world… don’t need me no more.
You fight to matter… you fight to stay,
But you watch yourself… slowly fade away.
[Pre-Chorus]
Yeah, the hardest part… is pretendin’ fine,
When the truth hits hard… in the back of your mind.
[Chorus]
I used to be… someone they’d wanna see,
Now I’m just a ghost… in my own memories.
Yeah, time moves on… and it don’t ask why,
You lose your glow… and you don’t know why.
I used to be…
I used to be…
[Bridge]
But maybe… maybe…
I’m more than a face… or the lines I hate.
Maybe… maybe…
There’s still some worth… beyond the surface place.
[Chorus]
I used to be… someone they’d wanna see,
Now I’m just a ghost… in my own memories.
Yeah, time moves on… and it don’t ask why,
But maybe there’s more… than just goodbye.
I used to be…
I still could be…
[Outro]
Mmm… yeah…
I still could be…
Still could be…

Used to Be
“I wrote Used To Be during a period where getting older hit me in a different way than it ever had before. There was a moment — staring in the mirror, scrolling old photos — where it really landed that time isn’t something you negotiate with. You look at your younger self and think, That was me? That kid with the glow? That energy? That certainty? And the truth is, it stings when you realize the world doesn’t look at you the same way anymore.
What pushed this song forward was that quiet ache you don’t talk about — the part of aging that feels like fading, like being less visible in rooms where you used to shine without trying. It’s not vanity; it’s the shock of watching your identity shift in ways you never prepared for.
But underneath all of that is something deeper: the hope that you’re more than your reflection, more than your prime, more than the attention you used to get. That maybe the version of you now — wiser, weathered, fuller — has a different kind of value.
Used To Be is about the vulnerability of aging, yeah…
But it’s also about refusing to disappear.
It’s a reminder that even when the world stops seeing what you once were, you still have the power to become something meaningful again.”
