What You Really Meant
[Verse 1]
I’ve been caught in the echoes of my mind,
Twisting words that were never unkind.
The scars I wear, they speak so loud,
Drowning truth in a shadowed crowd.
[Verse 2]
But I’m learning to listen with a heart that’s clear,
Tuning out the voice of fear.
Your words don’t need my walls to climb,
I’m giving love the space and time.
[Chorus]
Now I can hear what you really meant,
Not what my brokenness invents.
No more reading between the lines,
Or making your kindness feel unkind.
The weight is gone, the truth is near,
I can finally hear what’s sincere.
[Verse 3]
It’s not easy to silence the ache,
To untangle the past and the mistakes.
But every word you say, I hold it still,
Learning to trust, to let it heal.
[Verse 4]
No longer lost in a self-made maze,
I see your love in a brighter haze.
No suspicion, no defense,
Just your honest, good intent.
[Chorus]
Now I can hear what you really meant,
Not what my brokenness invents.
No more reading between the lines,
Or making your kindness feel unkind.
The weight is gone, the truth is near,
I can finally hear what’s sincere.
[Bridge]
Every wound was a lens, distorting the view,
But I’m cleaning the glass, seeing the new.
Your voice is steady, your meaning true,
I’m hearing the love I almost withdrew.
[Chorus]
Now I can hear what you really meant,
Not what my brokenness invents.
No more reading between the lines,
Or making your kindness feel unkind.
The weight is gone, the truth is near,
I can finally hear what’s sincere.
[Outro]
The silence is warm, the noise is gone,
I hear your heart and I belong.
No more twisting what’s heaven-sent,
I hear your love, and what you meant.

What You Really Meant
“This one came out of the quiet kind of hurt that doesn’t come from anger… but from being misunderstood by people you love. I’ve been in relationships with women who carried deep scars—trauma, abandonment, the kind of wounds that change how you hear the world. And no matter how gentle or honest I tried to be, my words were filtered through their pain. What I meant with love sometimes landed like criticism. What I meant with care sometimes got twisted into something I never intended.
It’s a helpless feeling—watching something pure get reshaped by someone else’s past.
This song came from that place. From wanting to press pause on all the fear, all the defensiveness, all the old ghosts that kept whispering lies in their ears. It’s me wishing that someday they could hear my heart instead of their history… that they could catch the meaning behind my words without the noise of old wounds drowning it out.
What You Really Meant is really a prayer for clarity, for healing, for the day when love doesn’t have to fight through so many layers to be understood. For the day they can finally hear the kindness I always meant to give.”
